The museum's dates

1861

/ Foundational Heritage

The house was originally built in 1861 as an Ottoman Serail, a governmental building, and is mentioned in historical sources, symbolizing its deep historical roots and architectural significance.

1981

/ Transformation and Adaptation

In October 1981, the building was repurposed and inaugurated as the Museum of Raqqa, marking a significant transformation from a governmental seat to a cultural and historical beacon in the region.

2019

/ Resilience Through Conflict

Despite the devastating effects of conflicts, the people of Raqqa have shown great resilience by undertaking major efforts to rebuild their city, including the museum, the rehabilitation of which began in 2019 with the support of international partners.

2022

/ Commitment to Preservation

In 2022, a preventive conservation project was launched to inventory remaining artifacts, improve storage conditions, and reintroduce the community to its heritage, highlighting the museum's ongoing commitment to cultural preservation and education.
